History
Lee County was formed in 1839 out of Ogle County. The county was named in honor of Richard Henry Lee a member of the Continental Congress. The Declaration of Independence was pursuant to Lee’s Resolution. Also known as the resolution of independence Richard Henry Lee (January 20, 1732 – June 19, 1794).
